Dr. Hao (Frank) Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering and Data Science and AI Institute at the Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on foundational computational algorithms, infrastructures and systems for transportation. Prior to his appointment at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Yang served as a research scientist at the National Science Foundation AI Institute for Edge Computing Leveraging Next Generation Networks and in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and the University of London and earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering (transportation) at the University of Washington. Dr. Yang is an panel member of U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute of National Institute of Standards & Technology, an area editor and editorial board member of Information Fusion (one of the most influential AI journals, with a 2024 impact factor of 14.8). Among his many honors, Dr. Yang received the 2022 High-Value Research Award from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the 2023 Best Paper Award from the Transportation Research Board’s Information Systems and Technology Committee, and both the Best and Outstanding Dissertation Awards from the Chinese Overseas Transportation Association and the Transportation Research Board in 2024. Dr. Yang has published more than 45 journal papers, including work in Nature Computational Science, Information Fusion, Transportation Research Part C, IEEE Transactions on ITS, and etc.
